Dear friends,

Earlier in June, a letter was sent to the members and friends of the church, informing everyone about my upcoming resignation, effective August 31. This will mark almost 18 years as pastor of this church. I am also planning to retire after almost 40 years of serving churches in Maine, New York, CT and MA.

From now until the end of August, I will be working with a team of volunteers to assure that things I have been doing are passed on for others to learn and carry out in this “in between time.” We are also finding people to step in to help with things my husband Keith has taken on, including our sound systems, sprinklers and more.

Amy Pawle, our church moderator, and other members of our church leadership are already working with our Area Minister on next steps concerning pastoral leadership for the church. You will be hearing more from Amy about this soon. If you would like to contact Amy directly, her email address is amy.pawle@gmail.com

I thank you all for the privilege of serving among you. You are an amazing congregation. You are so faith-filled, and you have a strong sense of identity as a Just Peace church, an Open and Affirming church and a member church of the United Church of Christ. Your next pastor will be blessed by you and your devotion to serve God through so many ways.

Keith and I will miss you and we wish you all God’s blessings as you move forward together in Jesus’ name.

Blessings,

Barbara

Dear friends,
By Barbara Schenk April 29, 2026
Dear friends, The joyful season of Easter continues this month. This season lasts 50 days and ends on Pentecost Sunday, celebrated this year on May 24. During this season, we focus on Jesus’ appearances to his followers after his death and resurrection. One of my favorite hymns for this season is In The Bulb There is a Flower by Natalie Sleeth. In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free! In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody. There’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. Blessings, Barbara
