Rev. Barbara Schenk:
My parents were always involved in church life and I feel blessed to have grown up in the Wilbraham United Church in Wilbraham, MA. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, with voice as my major instrument, from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. After college, I worked as a daycare and preschool teacher and administrator in different settings, and taught music classes for young children. I was an active member of the United Church of Ware for three years before I enrolled at at Bangor Theological Seminary in Bangor, Maine.
While in seminary, I continued to teach music and served as pastor for the Sebec Village Community Christian Church. After graduation, I accepted the call to serve the Canaan Congregational Church in Canaan, NY, where I was ordained into the UCC in 1989. My next call brought me back to this area, where I served Faith United Church in Springfield as Associate Minister. I then served the Wells Congregational Church in Wells, Maine. In 2000, I accepted the call to serve the North Canaan Congregational Church in Canaan, CT. It was during this pastorate that I met and married Keith Walker, a life-long resident of Springfield.
I wanted to come back to this area to live with my new husband and to be near my parents. I felt extremely blessed to have been called to Foster Memorial UCC in the fall of 2008. Keith and I live just a few blocks away from the church. When not working, I enjoy time with my family, movies, theater, reading, and singing with my husband.
